tarp-tipsWe have compiled a list of helpful tips below to assist our customers in using our product to achieve the best possible results:

  • Bales should be stacked with an orientation perpendicular to the prevailing weather pattern (Usually a North-South Orientation. Round Bales should be stacked in a 3-2-1 pyramid, while Square bales should be stacked with a sloped-roof to allow for rain-off. Do not position stacks too close to buildings, or to each other in case of fire due to spontaneous combustion or mischief.
  • For the best year to year storage, select ground that drains well or create a 3 inch pad using large #3 stone. A stone pad will allow tractors easy access to the stack, unlike a pad of old tires or pallets which can be destroyed with heavy tractor traffic.
  • To get the proper size tarp, measure from the center of the bottom bale over the stack to the center of the bottom bale on the opposite side. If the tarp is too short, rain run-off will flow onto the bottom bales. If the tarp is too long, the tarp cannot be tightened down properly as the bales settle.
  • Place single strands of wire every 3 feet on the ground perpendicular to the proposed stacks of bales on top of the wire which will act as an anchor.
  • Cover the bales using SuperTarp. Place a 3/4″ pipe in the sleeve of the SuperTarp, and anchor each strand of wire to the pipe.  High tensile fence ratchets attached to the wire on one side of the stack is recommended to easily re-tighten SuperTarp as the bales settle.
  • The tightness of SuperTarp should be checked periodically because of the settling of the bales. Re-tighten the SuperTarp using the high tensile fence ratchets when needed to prevent the tarp from flapping in the wind.
  • To use bales slowly, loosen the wire on both sides and fold the tarp back to expose the first section of bales and then re-tighten the next wire to secure the tarp.
  • To double the coverage simply place two tarps end to end, overlapping the tarps approximately 6 inches.
  • Then finished for the season, roll SuperTarp in a bundle and store the tarp in a dry area protected from rodents.
  • Please take caution when stacking and uncovering bales. Be sure other people, especially small children, are a sufficient distance away from the stack in case a bale would fall.
